Life Coach – Who Are These People and Why Do We Need Them?

A friend once asked me what I do.I said: “I’m a life coach.” She gave me a puzzled look. “Ah... and what does that actually mean?”

“Well… I help people clear their thoughts, make decisions more easily, handle life’s challenges, and feel better.” She nodded, but I could tell she didn’t quite get it. Like I’d just told her I read fortunes from beans.

After a short silence, she asked: “So… is that like a psychologist?” Nope, it’s not.

I joked: “It’s like a personal trainer for your mind – when your brain wants to do a handstand or the splits.” She burst out laughing.

A life coach isn’t a psychologist. But what we do can be just as deep – and just as valuable.

People often think you need a life coach only when you’re in trouble. Or that it’s something only executives use. Most people have no clue what life coaching really is.

That’s like saying you only go to the gym when your back hurts. Or you get a personal trainer after you can’t get out of bed anymore. At that point, you need a physiotherapist – not a coach.

But you go to the gym because you want to feel strong, healthy, and confident.

Same goes for life coaching.

If you want to travel – you use Google Maps.

If you want to get in shape – you go to the gym.

If you want to learn something – you sign up for a course.

But if you want a better life – who do you ask?

Usually… the people around you. People who are most likely figuring it out just like you are. Because we’ve all been thrown into life with nothing but a parachute – no instructions.

Life doesn’t come with a manual.

Most of us started out with just the basics. We get wiser as we get older – because we’ve made enough mistakes to know better. But by the time we figure it all out, we don’t get rewarded with another 80 years.

Our parents taught us what they could: To be polite. To work hard. To finish school. They did their best – they solved problems for us, comforted us.

But most of what we deal with today –we never learned at home or in school.

How do we deal with things like...

  • Recognize and express your emotions when you’re sad, angry, or disappointed?

  • Make a decision you feel good about, instead of just “doing your best”?

  • Say no – without guilt?

  • Stop replaying the same thought or problem over and over for days?

  • Break patterns of behavior, even when the situation looks different?

You know that feeling – when something happens and you’re stuck thinking about it for days? Same thoughts, same emotions, same stuck feeling... And deep down, you know what you need is a new perspective. Someone to help you see things differently.

So you call someone you trust – a friend. And they’ll say something like:“I’d feel the same if I were you.” Or: “Don’t worry, it’ll pass.”

That support is beautiful – we need people who listen and care. But what’s often missing are the right questions, the guidance, the clarity.

And that’s okay – friends aren’t meant to do everything.

That’s why life coaches exist.

Not to tell you what to do. But to help you figure it out for yourself.

To stop living by trial and error.

To stop wasting your energy on things that don’t serve you.

To pause and ask: “What do I really want? And how do I get there?”

Your happiness and success don’t need to be random. You have the potential for more – but just like everyone else, you need a guide.

You didn’t get a manual for life – but you can create your own.

When you buy a new appliance – it comes with instructions. But when real life happens – relationships, jobs, health, family – it all hits at once. And you’re left to figure it out.

No buttons. No reset. No pause.

Most people try to do it alone. But when you end up in a real mess – you don’t go to court by yourself, right? You get a lawyer.

So why not have a life advisor for life’s complex moments?

You don’t need a life coach just because things are hard.

You need one because you know you’re meant for more.

Because you want to know:

  • Who you are today – and who you want to become

  • How to make choices that are truly yours – not what others expect

  • How to deal with emotions, challenges, and relationships without losing yourself

  • How to be clear, present, and real – not perfect, just whole

  • How to earn respect without sacrificing your values

  • How to be happy – and figure out your path

You want to live well today, and even better tomorrow.

That’s what life coaching is.

It’s like having a personal guide. Someone who walks with you through the everyday. Someone who doesn’t tell you what to do – but gently asks: “What if you could?”

And what if you don’t click with your first coach?

Then you find another one.

Just like with hairstylists – many are great, but you’re looking for the one who fits you. Who hears your story and asks just the right question to shift your view.

This could be the perfect moment to book a free consultation and see if I’m the right coach for you.
